The treasure of the town of Hark\u00e1ny lies in its medicinal water, which was already known during the Turkish occupation. By 1823<\/strong>, the Batthy\u00e1ny family owned significant land in the area and attempted to expand their pastures by draining a marshy land located on the site of today\u2019s thermal bath. One of the day laborers \u2013 J\u00e1nos Pog\u00e1ny \u2013 was very dissatisfied with the canal construction due to his rheumatic pain, which this task only worsened. That is why he was very surprised when, after the exhausting physical work in the swamp, all his pain disappeared<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The miraculous event soon became known, and more and more people visited the sulfurous water canal to treat their ailments. Finally, in 1825, construction of a bath began, and the next major step occurred in 1866: under the guidance of Vilmos Zsigmondy<\/strong>, an expert in artesian well drilling, new wells were drilled in the area. This was possible even with the technology of the time because along the Hark\u00e1ny-Sikl\u00f3s-Kistapolca fault line, high-temperature thermal water is unusually close to the surface.<\/p>\n But why can Hark\u00e1ny water be so effective?<\/strong> The answer lies in the composition of the water, which has a high carbonyl sulfide<\/strong> content.
